Hello, I didn’t see
you there, come on in.
Welcome to my
modest and slightly spartan website. My name is Tom Worsley and
I’m a comedy and children’s writer originally from Gloucestershire
but now living in Glasgow.
Somehow I’ve
written sitcom, sketch, children's, topical and story work across
television and radio, and, ideally, I would like to keep doing
that because I can then mix my three favourite things in life –
comedy writing, the constant fear of being found out and not
having a steady income.
I got
my first credits back in 2008-2009 for a sketch pilot and
subsequent series called SCHOOL OF COMEDY which was part of the
much-missed ‘Comedy Lab’ strand on Channel 4. The series producer
was the first person in the industry to buy me lunch, so that was
nice. In 2017 I made it to the final two of the Nickelodeon
Writing Program (International). The chosen candidate would get a
paid 6 month placement in LA shadowing in writersrooms with
accommodation all covered... I didn’t get picked. But fortunately
I don’t think about this 3 to 4 times a week so it’s fine. (Note:
I'm now down to thinking about this merely once a week, and that's
progress.)
So,
when did it start to seem possible that I might be able to
actually be a writer? Well, in 2018, having written a spec sitcom
script, I was invited to be part of BBC Writersroom Scotland’s
first ‘Scottish Voices’ development group for new writers which
was an incredible experience and basically changed my life. From
there I worked on the brilliant BBC Scotland cop-mock-doc SCOT
SQUAD and CBeebies' pirate adventure show SWASHBUCKLE among other
projects.
I
wrote my first narrative comedy, SUE AND JOHN, a sitcom based on
my parents for BBC Radio Scotland. Rather bizarrely it got
nominated for a Celtic Media Award, which is actually a real thing
and not an elaborate prank. The award ceremony was due to be held
in northern France, but due to the pandemic it went out live over
Facebook instead. Which wasn’t quite the same, if I’m honest.
Also, we didn’t win. But fortunately I don’t think about this 3 to
4 times a week either, so it’s also fine.

I’ve also written
for BBC Radio 4 Extra’s DMs ARE OPEN and BBC Radio Scotland’s
topical sketch show NOISING UP, and jokes for BREAKING THE NEWS.
I was a finalist in
the Sitcommission 2023, twice longlisted in the prestigious David
Nobbs Memorial Trust comedy script competition and I wrote one of
the 6 projects chosen for the Big Finish Comedy Playhouse, going
into production in 2024, which I’m ridiculously excited about.
You can have a look
at my writing CV or even drop me an email if you want to do that
for some reason that I can’t really imagine. I’m represented by
Dominic Lord at the lovely JFL Agency if you want to offer me some
incredible, ideally life-changing, opportunities.
I'd love to come on
board your latest project, whether it be comedy, children's,
animation; jokes, sketches - the whole gamut.
Thanks for popping
by and look after yourself.
Tom.
